Writing Fellows are CUNY Ph.D. candidates currently at the dissertation stage.  The CUNY Writing Fellowship is part of the Enhanced Chancellor’s Fellowship, and fellows are interviewed and chosen by all the respective CUNY campuses.

At John Jay, the six Writing Fellows are an integral part of the Writing Across the Curriculum Program since they work directly with faculty and staff from across the college on various undergraduate-writing related projects.  Faculty and staff apply to work with the fellows, and can request assistance with writing assessment, syllabi and assignment design, and a number of other literacy-related activities. 

Fellows are not meant to work directly with students (except as needed to facilitate the approved projects), nor are they to act as Teaching Assistants.  Writing Fellows are, in effect, consultants; they work in partnership with faculty and staff to support undergraduate writing and all that entails. 

Writing Fellows are overseen by the WAC Coordinator and are expected to work with their faculty or staff partner(s) as outlined in the approved Writing Fellow request, participate in scheduled meetings and/or training sessions with the WAC Coordinator and other fellows, produce a portfolio every semester, and attend CUNY-wide WAC training and professional development sessions.
